The SWPC treasurer and accountant positions for the Club and Education Foundation have become vacant and we are recruiting for replacements. If you are interested, or know someone who might qualify, please inform any member of the Executive Committee. We will appreciate your input. Over half our members have joined since the year 2000, so now is the opportunity for new, young volunteers to step up and lead us into the future. These are the most important positions in our club and we are desirous of filling them as early as possible. Our previous treasurers have contributed greatly to the success of the Short Wing Piper Club and we thank them all for their willingness to serve. Now we look forward to new people stepping up and continuing this great tradition.

SWPC Convention 2009

Smokey Mountain High Y'all Come To Tennessee!

We're working on it all now, so "Y'all can periodically go to http://swpc2009.org to see what is in progress.

On June 29, 2009 Short Wings from all around will converge on Knoxville Downtown Island (KDKX) in Knoxville, Tennessee to celebrate the 4-Fs, and we, in the Tennessee Chapter, plan to show you a great time in the Volunteer State! We'll offer you fascinating places to see and interesting events to share, compelling speakers, seminars to keep you entertained, plus plenty of time to kick back, enjoy the scenery and catch up with friends, old and new! Over the next several months we'll keep you up-to-date on all these events, both here on the SWPC website, as well as through the convention website and the Short Wing Piper News. We hope you'll check in often, so you can plan your trip to the beautiful city of Knoxville, in the heart of the Smokey Mountains!

Just to tempt you a tiny bit, there are a few places you may wish to explore further while here in Knoxville. Many are within walking distance from convention headquarters the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza Hotel! Check out the Mabry-Hazen House and Blount Mansion, for a historic look back in time. See what life was like in Eastern Tennessee over 200 years ago at the James White Fort, home of Knoxville's founder. For the gardeners in our group the Knoxville Botanical Gardens and Arboretum offers a magnificent tour. World's Fair Park is also a wonderful place to experience nature.

If shopping is your cup of tea, visit Old City and the Market Square District, just steps away from our hotel. There are also great museums, such as the Tennessee Museum of Aviation, the Museum of Appalachia, and the Knoxville Museum of Art! The scientific-minded may want to investigate the Oak Ridge National Lab. Reservations are needed for some of these tours“ more on that as time goes by.

Of course, you can't think of Knoxville without thinking of one of the best amusement parks in the country Dollywood! You can find anything to suit your fancy rides and attractions, stage shows, crafts, maybe even a glimpse of Dolly! (We're not promising, but you never know!) Or, how about a dinner cruise on the Star of Knoxville, styled after the steamboat paddlewheelers of yesterday the perfect leisurely way to coast along the Tennessee River!

We hope we've at least whet your curiosity about Knoxville and the Short Wing Piper Club 2009 Convention! Stay tuned for more details about our speakers, the Poker Run, and other planned events. Now, get out your calendars, make your flight plans, and get ready to experience a Smokey Mountain High! Y'all come to Tennessee, y'hear!

Convention Sales Opportunity

The short wing Piper Education Foundation is making available, a place at the convention, to help you sell your extra short wing Piper parts and tools. Examples would be door handles, navigation lights, original instruments, tools, and manuals. We also plan to have a place where you can post a 3 X 5 card to show your short wing Piper parts and aircraft that are wanted or for sale, that might not be at the convention.

GUIDELINES FOR THE SHORT WING PIPER EDUCATION FOUNDATION AIRCRAFT PARTS EXCHANGE

Bring all your items for sale to the registration area. We will have a table in the vendor area to register all parts you make available for sale. We will need to know;
1. Name of the part and for which aircraft
2. Owner's name and phone number
3. The asking price for your items. You can give a portion or all of the profit from the sale to the Education Foundation as a tax deductable donation. Or the money from the sale of your items will be available for you in the vendor area before the banquet.

CONDITION OF SALE: All parts are to be brought to the convention in a short wing Piper, so the buyers can take the items they purchase home in their short wing Pipers. Parts are to be clean, and where applicable, in some type of a container. Please no hazardous materials. The sale of aircraft tools, which can be used to repair short wing Piper's is encouraged.

Owners of unsold parts will need to remove them from the vendor space prior to the banquet. The TNSWPC nor the Education Foundation will not be responsible for items you leave behind. Additionally, neither the TNSWPC nor the Short Wing Piper Education Foundation can make any warranties of any kind, expressed, or implied, as to the condition, purpose, or authenticity of any item sold or purchased at this venue.

The above plan is to make your convention more exciting and helpful to the endeavors of the SWPC and the Education Foundation. It is a plan that we are looking to you to make it work.

Larry Jenkins
Director
SWP Education Foundation

Notice of EAA invitation to Short Wing Piper Club

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Notice of EAA invitation to the Short Wing Piper Club: Special VAA Parking on Sunday July 26th.

The EAA has invited the Short Wing Piper Club to park in the Vintage Aircraft Area this year
This invitation is extended to the SWPC once each 5 years.
The parking area is in the VAA "triangle" which is south of the VAA barn and north of the ultra light runway.
This parking area is about as good as it gets at KOSH to be near the heart of the airport.
Many changes have been made to the airport for this 2009 AirVenture.
Buildings have been torn down, new buildings have gone up (including a new type club building; no more "tent"), new roads, new shuttle route.
If you are interested in flying your Short Wing Piper into AirVenture the day before official opening day, join the SWPC group arrival.
We will be departing KRYV, Watertown Municipal Airport, Watertown Wisconsin at about 0830L to arrive KOSH at 0900.
We have always been assigned to RW36 (straight in from KRYV) and we fly in a single line. It is a very easy arrival to the airport.
Most of us will be camping at our airplane parking spot but camping is not a requirement to join our arrival on Sunday.
There are 21 parking spaces reserved for the Short Wing Pipers this year and I have twelve confirmed to fly with us as of 06/04/2009
If you are interested please contact the "volunteer coordinator" to receive arrival details and the special parking placard;

Jerry Isbell by email: jisbell@columbus.rr.com or jgisbell@gmail.com
Home phone: 614.475.0690
Mail address: 412 Denwood Dr South, Gahanna, OH 43230

I will be at the SWPC convention at Knoxville, TN.
I am looking forward to this honorable parking offer from EAA.
