The Great Cookie & Candy Contest of 2012
Donna Lambert and Shirley Shepard are asking all members to help with the hospitality refreshments for the convention. We need to have homemade cookies and candy to enter in the cookie and candy contest. Please include the recipe with the cookies and candy that you bring to the convention.
Our members will be the judges, so bring yummy treats, not just chocolate. Bring your goodies with you to the convention (please don't mail them ahead!). If you have question you can contact Donna at (303) 659-4938 (H) or (303) 981-4154 (cell); email: prescoloradojdl@gmail.com or jdlambert@frii.com.

Drivers Needed for Shuttle Van Service
Jim Lambert is heading up the transpiration service for the convention. Jim says, "Hi, everyone! I am looking for drivers for the shuttle vans at the convention. It is a wonderful way to see everyone and get to know each other. I find that I get to see a little of the local area and I get to have fun with the attendees at the convention.
Remember, this is a "conclave" of flying friends and we enjoy our short time together. The drivers have a special place at the convention because we are a lot like the Wal-mart greeters. We are the first ones to welcome our members to the convention and make sure they are having fun.
So give me a call or email or just let me know when you arrive. The FBO may want to give us a procedural talk before we are allowed on the tarmac. No worry - it will all work out." Jim Lambert (303) 659-4938 (H) or (303) 941-0612 (cell); email: prescoloradojdl@gmail.com or jdlambert@frii.com.

Some thoughts from Kent O'Kelly . . .
A Club of Volunteers
Every year we put on a party for ourselves: our annual international convention. Without the unselfish gift of planning, responsibility and work by our members, we’d have no conventions. This year, our convention at Ogden, Utah, represents the near-ultimate in volunteerism.
Our entire convention is being put together from 100s, sometimes 1000s of miles away. I think the concept of this type of organizing and working group was invented and proven by Tom and Carolyn Gifford, who directed a number of our conventions.
Our convention directors this time are John and Linda Parish. They’ve divided the work up into more or less bite-sized chunks (some bites are a lot bigger than others) and obtained volunteers to manage/do each of the chunks.

There are many things that have to be done. Here’re the chair men and women:
Convention Directors: John and Linda Parish
Registration: Carol van Vleet
Transportation: Jim Lambert
Airport Operations: Jerry Isbell
Facebook & Twitter: Myrna Mibus
Photography: TBA
Journalism (Articles, info to website, etc): Kent O’Kelly
Shirts, Caps: Linda Parrish
Poker Run: Doug Conger
Aircraft Judging and Awards: Doug Stewart
Door Prizes: Denise Anderson & Jan Widman
Logo: TBA
Seminars: TBA
Ladies Seminars: TBA
Hotel: John Parish
Table Decorations: TBA
Meal Planning: the Parishes
Hospitality Room: Donna Lambert & Shirley Shepard
Tours, Outings: TBA
Media Coordinators: TBA

And, while we’re on the subject of volunteers, our club officers and directors are all volunteers. Yes, they’re elected or appointed. But, they receive no salaries for all that they do for us and, when they agree to run for an office, they’re often unopposed. They’re volunteers.

A final thought:
The long list above recognizes the chair men and women. Many are familiar, and have previously run committees for us: in some cases for many years. But, they’re only the committee chairs and, in some cases, will need a lot of help. We’d welcome having new names, new people, even first timers (our name for you if this will be your first convention) join one or more committees and chair one or more in the future. There’s no better way to make new friends and join the various groups of members who have a lot of fun and really get things done for us-all. If you think you can help, send a note or email to Dave or Linda Parish (contact page). They’ll direct you to an area that needs help.
