Countdown to the Convention!

Hope everyone is getting excited for the 2012 convention in Ogden, Utah, June 25-28. Linda and I are still working details, but "WASATCH PASSAGE 2012" is slowly coming together. We will be staying at the Marriott Ogden Hotel (phone 801-627-1190, mention ShortWing Piper Club), they are really excited to have us. We have a new airport manager and he also is excited as he wants Ogden Airport-OGD "on the map" for other airplane venues.
The airplanes will be parked on the ramp with tie downs, those that want to camp can do so under the wing or on the grass in front of the terminal building, this building has bathroom and shower facilities. There is also a restaurant in the terminal open 0700 to1430 seven days a week and a Budget car rental counter. Hertz cars will be available at the hotel and Enterprise is not too far away. Salt Lake International airport is a 35 minute drive north for those that are flying commercial.
I am working out the details for a 45 minute bus trip out to the GOLDEN SPIKE NATIONAL HISTORIC site, this is where the Central Pacific Railroad and the Union Pacific Railroad met and a Golden Spike was driven to set the rails. There is an reenactment every May of this historic event, I was told that it may be possible to have the same reenactment for us, more later.
Linda is again working with Heart Graphics in Ashland Wisconsin. The shirts and hats have been picked out and are ready to order.
I realize the date for the convention conflicts with schools getting out for the summer, but with weather starting to get hot in July and August, density altitude becomes a real factor at 4473 ft here at OGD. For those interested, you can Google "Ogden-Hinkley Airport" for a look. We are in "Class D" airspace with a control tower, please don't feel intimidated, the tower folks are real friendly and very helpful when flying in/out or just taxiing on the ground.
For those of you that attended the Vancouver convention, I know you came through here or just a ways to the north of us and am sure you found the scenery breathtaking coming over the mountains and seeing the Great Salt Lake before you. Kent O'Kelly wrote a great article in the Sept-Oct 2010 issue on flying out west following the Oregon trail on Interstate 80.
I will try to get more out later, if you have any questions please email or call and I will do my best to answer and address any concerns you may have.
