DOOR PRIZES
New Way to Win

Some door prizes will be handled differently this year. When you check in at the registration table after you arrive, you will receive a strip of 30 squares with your badge number printed on them. The door prizes will be displayed in a central location. If there is a door prize you have developed a real yearning for, you will just drop one of your pre-printed numbers into the container by the door prize. Because we are hoping for a number of hand made items, this should insure that each lovingly made item goes to a home where it will be cherished. You may get real lucky and go home with several prizes. As door prizes are won each day, more will be added to the display, so be sure to check the door prize display every day. (special door prize request)

    CONVENTION MEMENTO
Each paid reservation for this year’s convention will receive a unique blanket sponsored by UNIVAIR. This memento of the convention will have the UNIVAIR logo and SWPC embroidered on opposite corners, courtesy of Tom and Denise Anderson, our convention co-chairs. To accomplish this project they have had their kitchen taken over by an embroidery machine. Those of you who do much sewing know about dust bunnies that are born during such endeavors and right now the Andersons are up to their ankles in dust bunnies.
    souvenir blanket
So make sure your registration is in the mail by June 10th if you want to be sure a blanket gets made for you. Hopefully they will be a welcome addition to comfort in your airplane or any chilly weather. There will be a contest to see who can guess the number of stitches the machine made to create the blankets. The total number of blankets made will be posted in the registration area of the hotel.
Remember, folks, what happens under the blanket stays under the blanket.

5:15 - 11:00 pm Bus trip to LaComedia Dinner Theater to see "Church Basement Ladies". Cost = $42 for dinner and play; $8 for bus
The theater seats just over 600 and we have 125 seats reserved. Handicapped access is available, just note the need on your registration. Dinner is served buffet style but if you need assistance, they will be more than happy to serve or assist you.

LaComedia: Featuring six Broadway-style shows a year, along with our famous mouth-watering buffet, La Comedia Dinner Theatre has been southwest Ohio's greatest entertainment value since 1975! Whether you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary, looking for a one of a kind experience for your group, or a romantic afternoon or evening with that special someone, LaComedia is perfect for any occasion.
For each production, talent is cast from auditions in New York City as well as locally, ensuring that the performers in our productions are the absolute best available.
We also take great pride in the quality of our food. Our house signature salad with our own Papaya Chutney Dressing begins your dining experience followed by chef-carved meats, our famous deep fried Norwegian Cod, a variety of pastas and fresh vegetables, fresh baked breads, some dishes to represent the "flavor" of the current production, and of course our famous sweet potato soufflé!

CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES: A celebration of the church basement kitchen and the women who work there, Church Basement Ladies is a new musical comedy that follows four women as they prepare food and solve the problems of a rural Minnesota church in 1964. From the elderly matriarch of the kitchen to the young bride-to-be learning the proper order of things, we see them handle a record-breaking Christmas dinner, the funeral of a dear friend, an Easter fund raiser and a steaming hot July wedding.

They stave off potential disasters, share and debate recipes, instruct the young and keep the pastor on course. With good, clean laughs and memorable characters, Church Basement Ladies is heavenly fun for all!

    TWO POKER RUNS
    Thursday, June 24th
FLYING POKER RUN: The preliminary route offers some really fascinating points of interest. Leaving Middletown (KMWO) and heading south over suburban Cincinnati, the first leg should give an excellent view of downtown Cincinnati, it's surrounding hillsides dotted with highrises and homes, and it's major league sports complexes. The route will take you over the GE Aircraft Engine manufacturing facilities. To the east you should also be able to spot a 350ft replica of the Eiffle Tower at King's Island. The first stop is historic Cincinnati Muni. Lunken Field (KLUK), made famous by the likes of Earnest Gann and Martha Lunken. Located on the Ohio River, "Sunken Lunken's" terminal building is a step back into history with it's art deco murals depicting the glory days of air travel. The Sky Galley Restaurant is located there, too. From Lunken a short hop to the east takes you to Clermont Co. Airport (I69), the home of Sporty's Pilot Shop. Word has it Sporty will have free hot dogs on the grill for our pilots, and of course, the store will be open, too. The next leg is northeast over scenic Ohio farms and woodlands. The northern half of this leg takes you over Fort Ancient State Memorial prehistoric earthworks, then parallels the Little Miami Scenic River State Park. The third stop is Red Stewart Airfield (40I), a 3,140' x 150' turf strip known for its ragwings, taildraggers, and sailplanes. Legend has it that Red, now deceased, flew against the Red Baron and this field retains the spirit of that era. The next leg is northwest to Dayton-Wright Brothers (KMGY), Dayton's general aviation airport located south of the city and home of the 1911 Wright-B Flyer (virtual tour). You will be able to tour the Wright-B Flyer hangar facilities while you are there, and take an actual flight on the Wright-B Flyer if you like. Commemorative flights down the runway will be conducted on Thursday. The cost is $100 at the Wright-B Flyer Museum. The final leg of the poker run is a short hop southwest and back to Middletown (KMWO).

    Poker Run Route

The entire 77 mile trip should only take a half tank of gas. Be advised, you will have to have a working Mode C transponder to fly underneath Cincinnati's Mode C vale. The controllers in the Lunken tower are very friendly and helpful, but 2-way radio communication is desired.

    Thursday, June 24th
DRIVING POKER RUN: The first stop will be at the historic Voice of America Museum which is now part of the Butler County Park system. This site was once part of the external broadcasting system of the US government and it’s focus was Latin America. For many years, you could hear their broadcasts on your AM radio whether you wanted to or not as you drove by.
The second stop will be at Ikea. If you have never experienced an Ikea store, this is your chance. It is unlikely you will have enough time to see the entire 344,000 sq. ft. store in this visit, however you will experience what this famous Swedish manufacturer/retailer is all about.
The third stop is at Jungle Jim's International Market. This is the country’s largest market and is often featured on the Travel Channel and Food Network. You will marvel at the selection of wines, cheeses, and foods from all corners of the world.
You will then travel on to Barn-n-Bunk Farm Market and garden store. You may wish to grab a sandwich in their deli or cross the road to get ice cream treats at United Dairy Farmers. This is a Cincinnati company with excellent ice cream. You might also wish to cross the road to sample Skyline Chili for lunch. This is another famous Cincinnati tradition. Just let the waitress know you are new to the area and she will be sure to tell you your options, or just order a "Five Way" if you are adventurous. You will find that this chain redefines “fast food.” This is a must try for visitors to the area.
The trip ends with a visit to the Miami Erie Canal Museum in Middletown. This is part of the Middletown Historic Society. The museum chronicles the importance of the canal system to the early settlement of the area.
Maps and driving directions to all the stops will be provided
    .
